This siding was between Hailes Halt (to the south) and Balerno Junction (to the north). The siding was on the south side of the line, above the Water of Leith, and accessed from the Balerno Junction direction. The siding had a loop and goods shed. A bridge connected the yard to Kate's Mill itself, on the south side of the Water of Leith.
There was a signal box on the north/west side of the line at the point of divergence of the siding. The box and siding opened in 1879, not long after the line. The box closed in 1889 when replaced by a ground frame. The mill burned down in 1890.
The line closed completely in 1967.
The line's trackbed is now a footpath. Kate's Mill closed and was demolished. The bridge over the Water of Leith remains.
